Let There Be Light!

I found this via "Haute Nature". Garbage is a french design studio which produces lamps, made of household- and kitchen utensils. Pots and pans, cutlery or whatever the creative Gilles Eichenbaum finds, is transformed into playful unique light-sculptures. A great inspiration for household recycling.

Funny Valentine

The latest issue of US-Vogue has a wonderful fashion-piece, I just have to share... for all those who love the sparkling elegance and witty eloquence of the 1930's. Time of up-tempo screwball-comedies and sweetheart-seducement.

Oooh and the fashion! Petit waists, stockings and high heels, sophisticated shoulders, whimsical patterns, tiny funny hats and tailor-art combined with a dash of irony.
One of the inspirations is this film: "It Happened One Night" with Clarc Gable and Colette Colbert.

I looove the following two ladies! Sophisticated, eclectic, beautiful colours, sexy and a little crazy...

Alice In Wonderland

2003 Vogue featured Annie Leibovitz with a fashion shooting inspired by Alice in wonderland.

I am very curious to see the upcoming remake by Tim Burton next year, with for example Helena Bonham Carter (Red Queen), Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter), Alan Rickman (Caterpillar), and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

Dreams In Silk And Lace

Agent Provocateur is the best lingerie-shop in the world. Victoria's Secret simply cant catch up with them. I visited the A.P.-shop in New York and got this pair of champayne seam stockings (women: wear nylons! It's a gorgeous feeling), and a pretty, pretty corset with garters in rosé satin from Fifi Chachnil. Delicious!
In good time for the Valentines-craziness Agent Provocateur launched a new collection: "Virgins". Soft toned lace and silk, for romantic nymphs and tempting sylphides.

Check out their web-site. They have great pictures. Virgins is f.e. inspired by Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
And then go and buy yourself some sweetness! Or pray to St Valentine...

LUCENT DOSSIER

LUCENT DOSSIER & AARON GAUTSCHI 6, ursprünglich hochgeladen von thedolab

I've got a bad, bad crush on vaudeville... and one of my favourite circuses is Lucent Dossier from L.A.
They combine trashy romantik with dark glamour, sparkling fantasy with debauche frivolity. Their costume and art-work is amaaazing!

Sculptural Knit-Art

I did already write about Sandra Backlund, but i love her design so much, I just couldn't resist posting more of her wonderful knit-work. These pictures are from her previous collections: Last Breath Bruises and Perfect Hurts.

Dress Up, Guys

Some days ago I stumbled over this handsome guy: Mr Ozwald Boateng. And I thought I should take up the cudgels for bespoken suits. That means for real hand sewn, tailor made suits... Savile Row haute-couture. Mr Boateng is such a Tailor-Artist. He is known for his beautiful, perfect fitted suits in delicious colours. Suits are sexy! But only if they fit...

A "bespoke" suit is a custom-made suit. Every detail will be bespoken: style, cut, fabric. It will be drafted only for you, and hand-made down to the button-holes. The tailor takes your individual measurements, makes the cut etc. Then there will be a first fitting, were you check the fit, or come up with new choices. At the second fitting, the suit will be almost finished, it's just about details.
It takes almost two months to get a Savile Row-suit. But it's a timeless elegance you invest in. High quality, perfect fit and the best fabrics you can get, what else do you want?! OK it's expensive, but who needs a car??

The whole Boateng family seems to be skilled. I don't want to forget to mention his cousin in New York City: Nana Boateng, who designs suits too (found an interview here).

Sexual Creatures

Sex is fascinating...but the sex life of animals is even more than that. After visiting the Museum of Sex in New York I can tell you so... Wow, did you know flamingos are exhibitionists?! And that snails are sado-masochists?!! Weird, funny, crazy, and oh so natural.
And Isabella Rossellini can teach us much more. She did a couple of cartoon-like short films called Green Porno for sundance-channel. In hilarious costumes she shows us things we never wanted to know. All about the mating-rituals of insects, like spiders, dragon flies or earth worms. She is amazing and incredible funny. I love Isabella!

A Tree-Hut In The City

In Madison Square Park, New York City, I found this interesting art-work. Tree houses out of reach for the public. Little private spaces in the center of public. Objects of aspiration, dreams of childhood. The artist Tadashi Kawamata is known for his city-projects, which apart of being art always include a social dimension. He provokes and inspires discussions.
