Ahoi Marie

How couldn't I simply love this design?!
A little design-shop, just around the corner from where I live, has made this logo their signature. I've already got a T-Shirt, but I guess I need the whole Ahoi Marie collection... check out their site at: www.ahoi-marie.de

Let It Storm! Let It Drive You!

There is no escape. You can’t be a vagabond and an artist and still be a solid citizen, a wholesome, upstanding man.
You want to get drunk, so you have to accept the hangover. You say yes to the sunlight and pure fantasies, so you have to say yes to the filth and the nausea.
Everything is within you, gold and mud, happiness and pain, the laughter of childhood and the apprehension of death. Say yes to everything, shirk nothing.
Don’t try to lie to yourself. You are not a solid citizen. You are not a Greek. You are not harmonious, or the master of yourself.
You are a bird in the storm. Let it storm! Let it drive you!

African Spirit

Paul Smith's spring/summer 2010 collection. Inspired by African colors and prints, inspired by the vibrant style of the Congolese Dandies, les Sapeurs.

You can find more inspiration in the amazing pictured book: "Gentlemen of Bacongo".

Shoe-Craziness

Crazy, fascinating shoe design by Eelko Moorer.
"The idea was not to make wearable footwear necessarily, but more footwear that could function as a therapeutic prosthetic object with a psychological function for the user. It lets the user experience his own body making him conscious of the flesh through strapping on the stilts in a bondage kind of way and via balancing on the tips of the heels." (interview)

DIY-shoes for modern knights:

"I find that today’s designed environment has too much of the same conventional products, focusing on comfortability and the practical, that are the result of a too much systemized and industrialized society. On the contrary I believe in the value of difference, co-existence and the eccentric." (interview)

When Europe Meets Africa

The spring/summer collection "COCKTAiLeS" by Lavique, the label of the Seville-based designer, and my good friend, Viki. Playful, girlish and with a big love for cute little details as always. But this time she focused her designs on African textiles...
"COCKTAiLeS is a tale about Africa in Europe - a mixture, like a cocktail out of fabrics from different parts of Africa, like Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Senegal, South Africa,... combined with a European way of making patterns and design development.
And of course the very special and particular style full of colours and little details of the label LAVIQUE."

I love the idea of mixing textiles, skills, traditions and trying to show well-known things in a new light.

Words

"April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain."-T.S.Eliot
In 1957 Jean Genet wrote his poetic essay "Pour un funambule" ("For a Tightrope Walker"). "The public? They only see fire, and thinking you're playing, ignoring you're the incendiary, applauded the fire. (...) The ground will make you stumble."
"But what does the eternity of damnation matter to one who has found in a second the Infinity of enjoyment." -Baudelaire

Vintage inspired hats at the Hey Sailor shop at Etsy. Or here.

Eclectic Living

Rabbits and parrots in bright colors and a bold brushstroke, I'm talking about Hunt Slonem. But this is not about his painting. His home is as much a piece of art, indeed an inspiring oasis.
I love the colors, the eclectic mix of industrial surroundings, antique details and flea-market-chic.

-For him, objects are friends; the more there are, the more he’s inspired. “I have to have a certain amount of stuff in place before I can function and paint,” he says.-
A new book will be available soon: The Worlds of Hunt Slonem by Dominique Nahas

In Memory Of McQueen

Pictures of his last collection... beautiful, rich, royal, reminding of byzantinian opulence or baroque splendor.
